Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at Indiana University. He then pursued specialized fellowship training at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center in Indianapolis.

Throughout his medical training, Dr. Smith has been actively involved in orthopaedic research, with work focusing on conditions and treatments involving the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and other areas of the musculoskeletal system. His research has addressed topics such as elbow instability, distal radioulnar joint replacement, Dupuytren’s disease, peripheral nerve injuries, and shoulder replacement. He has also presented research at regional and national orthopaedic meetings.

Dr. Smith takes an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care, helping patients understand their condition and treatment options so they can make informed decisions about their health. He is a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association for Hand Surgery.
